Jar of Hearts

I want to preface this with my love for Jennifer Hillier. She is adorable. She is twisted. Her writing is set in the Pacific Northwest. I have not met a Jennifer Hillier thriller I did not like. I may have rated Jar of Hearts a little higher than I normally would have based on this said love. Either way, I will buy all of her books. Forever, without hesitation.

Based in Seattle, this book revolves around three best friends. Georgina Shaw is currently serving a prison sentence for aiding in the murder of one of those best friends, pretty and perfect Angela Wong. Unfortunately Geo was also in love with the Sweetbay Strangler. Fourteen years after an unspeakable crime is committed, it seems as though her first love is back and escalating when bodies are found matching his motive. The third best friend, Kaiser Brody, is now an attractive detective with Seattle PD and still on the hunt for the escaped murderer and still in love with Geo.

Alternating from the past to the present, Geo is forced to divulge her secrets from that fateful night and confront long overdue feelings for an old friend. I thoroughly enjoyed the build up of suspense Hillier created here. The sexual tension/obviously-he’s-in-love-with-you situation was unexpected but also somehow needed? I’m not sure how to describe it but I loved every bit. I would have liked a little more depth at the end but the plot twist had just enough foreshadowing that I wasn’t disappointed. I’m a sucker for a good epilogue and this one gave me goosebumps. I was told the audio version is creepy, I think I might have to listen. If you love thrillers, read all of Jennifer Hillier’s books.
